Grass Lake and the meadow surrounding it form a one and one-half-mile long flat area on the south side of Highway 89. Close to South Lake Tahoe, this area is an ideal location to practice beginner techniques such as kicking and gliding. It's also excellent for just getting out for a stroll on your skis.
Woods surround the open area and offer a change of scenery. You can also test your downhill skills on the slopes to the south.
Be aware that it may not be safe to ski on the lake.
A great number of ski tours begin at Grass Lake, but most are quite difficult. The easiest is the intermediate, one-way tour from Luther Pass to Hope Valley.
