USGS Topo | 7.5' series, Mount Rose |
Start | Highway 431, 0.7 mile southwest of Mount Rose Summit. There is a parking area on the southeast side of the road here. |
This tour, like the Peak 8843 tour, affords an outstanding 360-degree panoramic view from the summit. The summit is also interesting in its own right because of the rock outcrops that adorn it.
Counterclockwise beginning with looking northeast toward the microwave towers on Slide Mountain the panorama from the summit includes:
Mount Rose Summit
Mount Rose Highway
Ridge of Tamarack Peak
Ginny Lake drainage
Peaks to the west of Lake Tahoe
Route to Diamond Peak
Washoe Lake
While you will often find the climb to the summit well tracked, the descent on this loop tour gets little use and the south-facing slope is wide-open with lots of room to make turns.
