Start | Sagehen Summit on Highway 120 East, 16.6 miles east of Highway 395. A small parking space is usually plowed 0.1 mile east of the Sagehen Summit sign where Sagehen Meadows Road intersects the highway on its south side. Be aware that you can drive to this starting point only during periods when Highway 120 is plowed beyond its normal winter closure point. |
The area immediately to the south of Sagehen Summit has something to offer you regardless of your skiing ability. If you are a beginner, it is a beautiful setting in which to practice the basics. If you are more advanced, there are slopes of varying steepness on the north side of the 8600-foot knob south of the trailhead, which are perfect for practicing downhill techniques. Everyone can enjoy exploring the nooks and crannies of the rock outcroppings of the peak. You can also ski to the tops of Sagehen Peak and Crooked Peak as described in that tour.
