Start | Sugar Pine Point State Park on Highway 89, 0.8 mile south of Tahoma. Turn west into the park and follow the road to the entrance station. Immediately past the entrance station turn left and follow the road a short distance to the day use parking lot and trailhead. Do not confuse this, the main part of the park, with the smaller part of the park located on the east side of Highway 89 and slightly farther south. |
Sugar Pine Point State Park offers marked and groomed trails. The most interesting skiing is found in the main part of the park where the short Blue Trail is located and the longer General Creek tour (the Red Trail) is also found. The park's Yellow Trail, not yet available in this guide, is located on the shore of Lake Tahoe.
The tranquil setting along with the easy to follow trails make Sugar Pine Point State Park a popular but not over crowded destination. The Blue Trail is a loop suitable for most any skier with basic skills and is one of the few groomed trails in California on public lands.
Sugar Pine Point State Park is open all winter for camping. Hot water and heated restrooms are provided in the campground, which is quiet during the winter months.
